Today, It’s All About the Kids received this letter from Stephanie Muñoz. Stephanie has been a stellar student and participated in It’s All about the Kids programs for the last 7 years. She has been in our college program, Difference for a Week, for her entire college career, and she has excelled. We are so proud of her! Now, she has an opportunity to teach English in China…and she needs help to buy her airplane ticket!

Please help us send her to China for a year to teach English.

Here is her letter….

My name is Stephanie Muñoz, a recent graduate from the University of California, Merced. I am 22 years old from San Diego, California. In May of 2015, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. I am a first generation student not only to graduate High School, but I’ve made my family really proud by earning a four year degree from the University of California system. Graduating college was always one of my biggest dreams, and it feels so good to say I’ve finally crossed that off my list.

I am a former graduate from Toussaint Academy San Diego (TASD), a program for homeless youth at risk. I resided at TASD for four years previous to coming to college. The program was my biggest support system throughout my high school years. I was always encouraged to strive to be someone successful in life by providing me with the necessary life skills that I needed to survive out in the real world. Not having the support from my immediate family allowed me to let in a new family that provided me with all the love, support and encouragement I needed to continue to believe that I can be someone great in life.

In high school I was always involved and an active member of my community. I continued stay involved throughout my four years of college I’ve had the privilege to hold several leadership positions that have allowed me to work with diverse groups of students and make long lasting relationships, not to mention great connections. One of my favorite positions I genuinely enjoyed was being a Success Mentor. This position allowed me to serve and guide first year student’s transition from high school to college serving the students as a main resource to help adapt to a new lifestyle and community. I saw this opportunity to give back and help incoming first year students have a great experience, as I was guided by a mentor my first year of college as well.

I really made sure to have a great experience at UC Merced by taking all the opportunities that were offered to me and always going for the things that I wanted. I’m always looking for opportunities for me to grow and become a successful person. Recently, I was offered an extraordinary position to go to China for a year through Ameson Education & Cultural Exchange Foundation to teach English to elementary level students. I’m immensely excited for this new opportunity. It’s such a great transition and new chapter of my life that it feels almost surreal. I’m reaching out to It’s All About The Kids Foundation [IAATKF] to help me get to China by financially assisting me in buying my airplane ticket, it’s something that I’m struggling with at the moment and that would take big weight off my shoulders. I am a motivated person that has faced many obstacles in life, but my past doesn’t define the person who I am and becoming. I ask you for your generosity and financial assistance. I will appreciate any help I can get from the bottom of my heart. I will make sure I make the best out of this experience and I’m excited to share my experience and time in China with IAATKF.

Thank you so much in advance.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Muñoz

“The national recognition that our charity is receiving is a testament to the good work that the board and Angela have done over the years.  We should all be proud that our organization never sought recognition but only focused on doing good work for those in need in San Diego.” said Shawn Heyl, It’s All About the Kids President and Co-Founder. “Every once in a while we find ourselves involved in a business or organization that we really can be proud to be a part of and that really makes a difference.  ”

We’re changing the name of America’s 8th largest city between Sep. 4th and Sept. 7th, 2015. We’re calling it SAND iegoTM. Not only that, we’re building a beach high above the water, bringing 300 tons of sand to the ‘B’ Street cruise ship terminal pier, with our Big Bay on the West and downtown’s castles in the sky on the East. It’s been called the most creative atmosphere in the world. There’s nothing else like it anywhere.

World Master Sand Sculptors come from Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands and Canada, from exotic places like Latvia and Singapore, to challenge the best in the U.S. Their 3-dimensional art is astounding. You’ll fall in love with it. But you can’t take it with you. The sculptures weigh over 10 tons each and they’d ruin your lawn. So we have over 1,000 works of art that you can fall in love with, buy and take home.

Oh, and there’s live entertainment (big bands, singers and more), a sand box and rides for kids, a dozen gourmet food trucks, a great view of the bay, tall ships and cannon battles….

Stop in and have an adult beverage at the Partying for a Purpose Finish Line! Beer, wine and margaritas with an amazing view of the Big Bay benefiting the It’s All About the Kids Foundation! Relax under an umbrella and enjoy the weekend !
